Buildwyse has years of experience providing a range of construction services on traditional Victorian period houses and buildings in inner Sydney.
The Buildwyse Victorian heritage
Built around 1840–1900, the charmingly ornate Victorian home is becoming increasingly valuable in Sydney, so it’s wise to properly exploit its unique character. If you are extending your home or updating its livability to modern standards, Buildwyse Constructions has an empathy with the Victorian style, a keen eye for appropriate heritage detail and extensive experience with this kind of home.
Many Buildwyse clients have been in Sydney’s inner west which is characterised by Victorian and Federation homes. Buildwyse proprietor Scott Wellings has been a member of the Master Builders Association for decades. As our portfolio shows, Scott has to his credit not only many Victorian-era home improvements but heritage restoration projects as well. This demanding, detailed work was completed to the satisfaction of both the owner and strict heritage guidelines.
Victorian style home extensions and additions
The average home of the Victorian period was quite small by today’s standards and our most common project is a rear extension. Today this often incorporates a deck for outdoor entertaining. We can continue the distinctive Victorian character of the house right through the addition with attention to the style of the cast ironwork, render, slate, window surrounds and even window casements and leadlight glass. We have been sourcing quality reproduction Victorian fittings and fixtures for decades.
For larger or more complex projects we can bring in an architect experienced in Sydney heritage homes to make the end result as historically authentic as possible, and we engage top-quality specialist craftsmen when required.
Or if you want a completely contemporary extension or kitchen blended as respectfully as possible into the old house, Buildwyse has the attention to detail, design flair and architectural sensitivity required.
Case studies
Two-storey addition to a Victorian terrace
A two-storey addition to the rear of this Newtown terrace included a new Victorian-period dormer window at the front.
New Victorian windows in a heritage-listed home
This heritage-listed Victorian building in Enmore required exacting period detailing on three new windows. We carefully matched the new corbelling of the largest one to the existing windows.
New Victorian timber door and surrounds
As we extended the rear of a Victorian terrace at ground level, we removed a old deteriorated first floor door and installed a new timber door frame and leadlight, supplied by local heritage tradespeople. We also built decorative surrounds and corbel and decorative sill to match the rest of the building.
Victorian period home renovations within your budget
Working with older houses can be challenging and costly. There more to consider in matching original period details, and older buildings have had longer for past neglect or damage to bring complications. Buildwyse has a well-earned reputation for well-managed, high-quality Victorian home improvements. An experienced and qualified builder like proprietor Scott Wellings will look for typical prospective issues during his first site inspection, address them in the design and construction methods and cost them accurately. As Scott is always onsite managing the build, any variations will be discussed directly with you on the spot.
The Buildwyse team is punctual, dependable, detail-oriented and highly skilled.
